"Mac Dog Williams" scribe heads TV pilot

Acclaimed novelist and short story writer Chris Offutt is the creator, writer and co-executive producer of "Tough Trade", the first original pilot offering for the new Television/Web channel Epix, produced by Lionsgate Television.

"TOUGH TRADE" is a dramatic but humorous look at the Nashville music scene. The show focuses on a family of country stars who live like the lyrics to a country song; a Nashville music dynasty whose bad behavior has left them on the verge of bankruptcy. Also described as a "bawdy fictional portrayal of one of Nashville’s most prominent and dysfunctional music families."

Chris Offutt's works include "Kentucky Straight", "Out of the Woods: Stories" and "The Same River Twice: A Memoir". He recently served as executive story editor on HBO`s "True Blood" and writer and producer for Lionsgate`s hit comedy "Weeds."

Offutt has also written the screenplay "Mac Dog Williams" with "Transsiberian's" Will Conroy ('Five Minutes, Mr Welles') for Vincent D'Onofrio/Brooklyn Hazelhurst Productions.

"Tough Trade" begins filming in November in Nashville.
