For his feature directorial debut, music video veteran Mike Mills chose to adapt a coming-of-age saga about shame and adolescence by novelist Walter Kirn. Lou Pucci plays the awkward and insecure 17-year-old son of equally insecure parents (Tilda Swinton and Vincent D'Onofrio) who consults an unorthodox orthodontist (Keanu Reeves) to rid himself of the film's titular fixation. To  gain more support, he travels to the Order’s annual convention in  Chicago where he befriends Nancy (Harden), a more established “Supreme  Ruler.”
