So the show was fantastic...I was 1 foot from the stage. Front and center..

Vincent's wife, daughter, nephew, Kate Erbe and a few other actors were there..

There was a statement at the end I found very interesting..his last words of the night...He broke character from Geogre Gerkie and said: "a tv producer once said, 'Vincent, you wear your heart on your sleeve, and I said to him, go f**k yourself.'" And he left the stage...now was that a message to his fans??? That he was let go?!?! I hope other people weigh in, please!!!!

Controversy brews over "Law & Order: CI" exodus

The USA network announced earlier this month that "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will do some major house cleaning for season nine, dumping the show's original stars Vincent D'Onofrio (Detective Goren) and Kathryn Erbe (Detective Eames), as well as Eric Bogosian (Captain Ross) and Julianne Nicholson (Detective Wheeler).

That's right. Every actor in the photo below is leaving except for Jeff Goldblum (far left).

Even more troubling, now there are reports that one of those characters will be written off in the most final of ways. According to Showbiz411, "L&O: CI" just taped an episode in which one of the departing characters is murdered.

Presumably, Goren isn't the character killed off, since D'Onofrio said at the time of USA's announcement, "For all my loyal 'CI' fans, I wouldn't be surprised if Goren pops up from time to time."

Showbiz411.com also says that Erbe is ticked about the way things have turned out. The website, which claims to have insider scoop, doesn't give away any other clues. The death of Erbe's character (should she prove to be the unlucky one) could be the final undoing of Goren, who has endured an unprecedented amount of tragedy over the past few seasons. Goren's departure from the squad after losing his longtime partner and friend would seem pretty natural. But perhaps that's too obvious.

Fans of the show are understandably upset. One very organized campaign to save the characters has created a Saving Goren and Eames website, a blog (complete with media and NBC Universal "hit list"), and a Twitter account.

Stephanie Fox, who runs the "Saving Goren and Eames" website, told us that she feels the network has forgotten the fans and that her goal of saving the characters has had to shift with this latest news.

"Since the network has obviously made up its mind to gut the show we have come to know and love, our original goal of Saving Goren and Eames has shifted to simply getting them a proper send off."

But it sounds as though D'Onofrio for one is leaving voluntarily. USA announced that the actor had decided to "transition out of the idiosyncratic role he created to explore new acting challenges in film and television."

D'Onofrio's Detective Goren will appear in the two-part opener of season nine and then the show will be turned over to Jeff Goldblum, who came on to share detective duties in season eight. Full article

I told you a few weeks ago that “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” was letting go of three main players: Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian. Now I can tell you this: one of their characters will die.

“CI” just finished filming an episode in which one of the three is murdered. That’s the exit show for the other two as well.

I am told by “CI” insiders that Erbe, especially, is very unhappy with the way things have worked out over there. “She was told everything was going fine, and then they were fired.”

Whoever was murdered isn’t too happy, either. But I’m not giving that part away.

The show is next turned over to Jeff Goldblum, who will soldier on without the original cast. Full article

TIFF Review : "'Staten Island"

Review of "Staten Island", screened at Tokyo Int'l Film Festival

Written and directed by James DeMonaco, this is one quirky crime caper that tells of 3 individuals in a non-linear fashion, which brings to mind something like at attempt at Pulp Fiction especially with its hilarious inter-titles used as character introductions, breaking up the narrative into a before-and-after a pivotal opening where a mobster violently interrogates a small time crook because the latter had done something terrible to the former's mom.

You know that's plenty of black comedy going for the film with its documentary introduction, which explains in general just what Staten Island is all about in socio-geographic terms, where we're told that it's basically a crime burrough with the highest concentration of gangsters and mob killings, with areas named after famous kill grounds. It set the stage for what's to come as a theme, where it's about failure and the results that stem from such failure.

Vincent D'Onofrio plays Parmie, a mafioso type who sets goals constantly to achieve for vanity reasons, such as his world record breaking attempt at being a man capable of holding his breath underwater for 9 minutes. But in fact it's quite a shrewd skill, especially when an assassination attempt proved on hindsight that this is is of value to anyone who knows they're on someone else's hit list. He sets yet another more ambitious plan, and that's to start a bloodbath with rival gangs in order to take control over Staten Island's underworld, a plan that brings about hesitation from his crew. Unfortunately he becomes disillusioned by a keen betrayal, and in an about turn sets another goal which tangents his character off quite a bit, and that's to become a tree hugger. Full review

At the announcement of his departure from the series New York Criminal Section, we met Vincent D'Onofrio (Robert "Bobby" Goren) who explained why the season 9 (not 8 as shown on the video, sorry!) with Jeff Goldblum is still a good season ..

The actor also explains the reasons we pushed at the time, to prefer television to cinema. Obviously, Vincent D'Onofrio seems very proud of his work during his years in Law and Order Criminal Intent.

In addition, The Hollywood Reporter tells us of another departure from the series: Kathryn Erbe (Alexandra Eames) and also Eric Bogosian (Danny Ross, since 2006).

In short, it's just the carnage this year in the Dick Wolf series. Hopefully Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows (Boston Legal.) Will maintain its quality ...

"TéléStar: Why are you leaving the series Criminal Intent?
Vincent D’Onofrio:
I have played in this series for seven and a half years and I think I have gone around my character.
Dick Wolf, the creator and I agreed that Jeff Goldblum would take over with the part of Detective Zach Nichols. At the same, we decided that my character Goren would not disappear completely from the series. I will leave the main role, but I will come back occasionally.

TS: Was it a difficult decision to make?
V.D'O:
Yes, because I know there are a lot of viewers following the series in the USA, but also all over the world. It’s just that I have three children and I don’t want to play a part that takes up this much of my time. I came to realize that it’s time for me and my family to move on to other things.

TS:The arrival of Jeff Golblum during the eighth season had much to do with this decision. And the fact that you alternated episodes last year, did not create a rivalry?
V.D'O:
No, not at all! Jeff is a nice guy and an excellent actor, whose work has often inspired me. It's a huge honour that he'll be replacing me.

TS:You've had some health concerns during the filming of the series a few months ago. Didn’t you think of leaving [the series] back then?
V.D'O:
No, there was never a question of leaving the series, but just to ease my shooting schedule because it was really too heavy to bear!

TS: Are you pleased with the way that your character is leaving the series?
V.D'O:
We have not yet begun to shoot the two-parter, so I really can’t talk about it. In any case, it will happen in the first 2 episodes of the ninth season. It will be dramatic, but Goren will not die!

TS: What do you think the departure of Kathryn Erbe at the same time as yours?
V.D'O:
I have no idea how she feels about it. I can not speak for Kate, you should ask her that question.

TS: How do you look back on all those years in Goren’s skin?
V.D'O:
To me it's a real accomplishment. It is so rare today that a series on the small screen lasts for this many years.. It surely must be an element of luck and also the talent of the writers.
But I will always be very proud of the longevity that represents this adventure. And I feel I have created a unique character whose style -original and innovative at the same time-, pleased the viewers.

TS: Have you heard the reaction from fans of the series?
V.D'O:
Just the people that I come across in the street, that let me know that it saddens them that I’m leaving.

TS: Are you pleased that the door to the series will stay open for you?
V.D'O:
There’s an expression that says: “it’s always better not to burn all your bridges” Goren is a special part and it would be a shame to let go of him forever. As an actor, I would be delighted to bring him back.
But with Jeff (Goldblum) the series may be sufficiently successful that the new team decides to waive my services all together, I would easily understand. But Dick (Wolf) and I would have been stupid not to leave the door open!

TS: You spoke of your children, how did they react to learn that you will be working less?
V.D'O:
They were enchanted ! They will see me more often.

TS: Will you be doing more television next?
V.D'O:
The projects I have for now, are all movies. I had some talks that could bring me back to the small screen, but that will have nothing to do with "Criminal Intent”. And then, it would be a part opposite of Goren.

TS: You just celebrated your 50th birthday last June, was that a big step for you?
V.D'O:
Of course it's a step. The most exciting is the mystery that lies in the way that the next twenty years of my life will unfold! I just wish my career will take a totally different direction from everything what I have been able to do so far."

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Gunfire and explosions could be heard from the former Stapleton home port site today.

There were no emergency vehicles rushing to Front Street, however.

Film crews are scheduled to be at the home port until 6 p.m., taping a segment for the detective series "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

The episode included gun shots and explosions, according to the Police Department.

The show's main stars, including Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeff Goldblum, Katheryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian were not spotted during the shoot. It's not immediately known when the show will air.

According to silive.com, an online news source for Staten Island, L/O C/I will be filming Monday. Of course, they still think Chris Noth is on the show!

The site reports; Staten Island neighborhoods, North Shore, Gunfire and explosions at Stapleton home port during L/O C/I shoot.

This is to occur on Front and Canal Streets, 10am to 6pm.

Apparently, the previously reported filming for this past Friday didn't take place.

Whats up with that?

Still nothing from any camp of the actors involved, Vincent, Kathryn or Bogosian. Not even upcoming plans, all very strange.

There has really been nothing in the news since September 25th. Anything after that has come from people digging, but no one official saying anything except "no comment."

IMDb is revealing nothing new in any of the involved parties to hint at new projects, just the film Vincent is filming.

I hate to assume, you know what that makes me...but it's all I can do. I think negotiations are ongoing. Also that whatever filming is happening is simply filming around major characters.

Hints?

Website Spoiler Buzz claims that Vincent said in an interview that he will be leaving the show to direct or whatever. The website hasn't been updated since 2007.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM HERE? No one can give a tiny bit of info, enough to let fans know what is going on? Would it completely break down the negotiations to at least say there are some talks going on. Perhaps, the universe will emplode.

What is it that attracts us to Mafia movies like steel clips to a magnet? Most of us have seen The Godfather, a movie considered by many to be the greatest ever made. But it’s just one of a long line of great Mob flicks that extend back to Hollywood’s early years where we had such classics as Public Enemy Number 1 and Little Caesar. Just in past two decades or so Hollywood has released such great flicks as Casino, Donnie Brasco, GoodFellas, Jackie Brown, A History of Violence and The Departed, among others.

With so many superb mafia flicks around, we might ask: Has Hollywood seen its best days when it comes to this genre of movie? The quick answer is, no way.

Consider that that this coming spring (2010) an explosive and highly original mob flick is scheduled for release. Titled simply The Irishman, the movie depicts the story of Danny Greene, an Irish-American mobster who takes on the La Cosa Nostra in a vicious and violent gang war that had the bodies piling up on the streets of Cleveland in the 1970s.

The Irishman movie brings together an award-winning all-star cast and an award-winning all-star production crew. Noted actors Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, Paul Sorvino, and Vincent D’Onofrio**(Law and Order’s Criminal Intent) will play lead and supporting roles. Director Jonathan Hensleigh was the screenwriter for Die Hard with a Vengeance and Jumanji and wrote and co-directed The Punisher, while Jonathan Walters is the co-writer. The movie’s editor, Douglas Crise, was Oscar nominated for his work on Babel.

Writing the screenplay must have been a challenge given Greene’s complex character and the richness of his story. Porrello described Greene as “a Celtic warrior at heart, obsessed with the color green—green car, green jackets and green ink pens.”

The quirky Irishman was handsome, obsessed with physical fitness and followed a strict diet of fish, vegetables and vitamin supplements. To minimize his hair loss, Greene underwent painful hair transplants.

The movie is scheduled to debut St. Paddy’s Day, 2010. “With an Irish character like Danny Greene, that’s a fitting way to launch the movie,” Reid said. It sure is, but given the uncertainties of the film industry, it may take the luck of the Irish for that to happen.

His popularity was so immense in 1987 that he won a term as governor of Mississippi on a write-in ballot. Eight days into his term, the State Board of Regents overturned the election on a technicality.

Throughout his long career, George Gerkie has made headlines as much for his record breaking music as his tempestuous personal life. From 1982 to 1990 alone he was married eight times and was named People Magazine's Most Eligible Bachelor eight years running. Mickey Rourke cited Gerkie's four day marriage to Billy Jean King as the inspiration for his role in the movie "9 1/2 Weeks." In 1986 his international drivers license was revoked during the "Herkie Gerkie" tour after he was arrested for driving through the 18 mile Zhohgnanshan tunnel in China on the outside of a car. While serving a two month prison term at the Heilongjiang Work Camp, he recorded six consecutive number one hits on Chinese National Radio, a record that stands until this day. Cameron Crowe has referred to Gerkie's hit "The Girl From Jilin City," a collaboration with Paul Simon, as one of the seminal love songs of the modern era. After a 1990 fall from a step stool, George became addicted to pain killers, a struggle that has been well documented, most notably in his unauthorized autobiography "Finger Lickin."

Vincent D'Onofrio is known as an "actor's actor". The wide variety of roles he has played and the quality of his work have earned him a reputation as a versatile talent. He studied at the Actors Studio and the American Stanislavski Theatre. His debut on stage was in 1984 in the Broadway play "Open Admissions", followed by work in numerous other stage plays. As a film actor, D'Onofrio's career break came when he played a mentally unbalanced recruit in Full Metal Jacket (1987), directed by the renowned Stanley Kubrick. For this role D'Onofrio gained nearly 70 pounds. He had a major role in Dying Young (1991), and appeared prominently in the box-office smashMen in Black (1997) as the bad guy (Edgar "The Bug").

"Puntland" - Part 1 Casting Call

[HASSAN] 30s. Male. Somali-American. Born to a Somali tribal sheikh as one of 40 plus children, Hassan and his sister, Kadra, were raised and educated in the states but now are starting to embrace their heritage and homeland. Sharply dressed, and very handsome. A seemingly "normal" guy, but behind closed doors he is hiding a dark and violent mission ahead of him. It is hard for him to tell Jill, his American girlfriend, that he has no option but to cut ties with her, due to family obligations. Working with the owners of a company that illegally ships weapons, Hassan is thrust into a dangerous role that tests his honor and ruthlessness.

Initially thought to be the head of an international security organization, the detectives discover questionable photos which show that his past is entangled with a shipper of illegal weapons overseas. Upon investigation Van Dekker’s involvement with volatile countries and his motives are proved to be anything but above board.

[LOFTEN] 30s-40s. Male. Dapper businessman. Owner of Loftair, a company that owns old airplanes and flies weapons all over the world. After his business partner is found dead, detectives and the FBI question his shady dealings and further investigate his work.

[WENDY STARK] Mid 30s. Female. Attractive FBI Agent. She is called in to further investigate a federal case that is overlapping with a case the MCS has started investigating. When the detectives discover that she is taking over their case, she must professionally face their frustration and anger.

[RON HEGEL] 30s. African-American. Male. An FBI Agent working with Wendy Stark investigating a federal case that is very personal to the MCS. He gives the detectives the hard truth that they have to stop investigating this case while he and his partner take over.

[JILL PIKE] Mid 20s. Caucasian. Female. Very attractive American girl. Supportive girlfriend to Hassan, her Somali boyfriend, even though his family isn’t very tolerant of their multi-ethnic relationship.

[JOLIE] Late Teens-Early 20's. Female. The privileged daughter of a wealthy businessman. She is shocked by the news of her father's death when she comes home to an apartment teeming with detectives. She gives the detectives details of her father's work in shipping illegal weapons and divulges the names of his partners.

[MARYA] 20s. Female. Gorgeous American girlfriend of a Swiss millionaire 30 years her senior. The two engage in some thrill seeking activities and are mutually opportunistic. But their wiles eventually catch up to them.

[TARAS BROIDY] 50s-60s. Male. An exotic millionaire. Any Nationality. Wanted by police for trading illegal weapons. He and his young girlfriend engage in some thrill seeking activities and are mutually opportunistic. But their wiles eventually catch up to them.

[MULLAH] 50s-60s. Male. Somali. A Muslim learned in Islamic theology and sacred law. He offers to help Hassan learn the history of his great grandfather, who defeated the British. Speaks one of his lines in Arabic. ACCENT REQUIRED.

[DR. LAVENTHAL] late 30s-40s. Male. Cocky plastic surgeon who sees his work as "art". Finds out that one of his clients, Marya, was recently murdered, and he gives MCS information about her.

[LIONEL SUTTON] 50s. A snobby upper class building manager. After being presented with a search warrant, he begrudgingly lets the detectives into the penthouse apartment.

[MILGRAM] 60s. Wall Street executive of an investment banking firm. Is Roy Loften's silent business partner shipping weapons all over the world.

[AYUB] 30s-40s. Male. A Pakistani-American technician who is able to analyze and identify the micro components of weaponry. His allegiance may be to the criminals rather than the law. SLIGHT ACCENT.

[TRISTAN] 20s-30s. African-American. An intimidating presence. Appears in the shadows as a watchful eye throughout both episodes, sometimes as a security guard, an assistant or a limo chauffer.

[OMAR] 60s-70s. A Somali tribal sheikh, who is with his large family boarding a private trawler for a celebration. Once on board the boat is attacked by a large vessel thinking they are Pirates.
[TIMIRO] 60s. Somali wife of tribal sheikh, Omar. Clutches a gold-threaded sari as her and her husband huddle against the cabin of their trawler during a violent attack.

[CAPTAIN] 40s-50s. Male. American or European Captain of a chartered luxury yacht cruising the waters of the Horn of Africa. He navigates the yacht during a violent attack of Pirates on a nearby trawler.

[SOMALI CAPTAIN] 40s. Male. Captain of a small coastal trawler that has a tribal sheikh and his wife on board during an unexpected attack at sea. Shouts to his crew in Arabic.

[DETECTIVE WALSH] 30s. Male. Any Ethnicity. Detective who gives details at a crime scene to the MCS Detectives.

[MILLIE] 20s. Female. Van Dekker's assistant who informs him that the police are entering their security office.

[ENGLISH WOMAN] 30s-40s. Wealthy. On her cell phone, she is excitedly recounting her experience aboard a luxury yacht during a violent attack as it is happening. ENGLISH ACCENT.

[HELMSMAN] 30s-40s. Male. American or European. Assists the Captain of a luxury yacht during an attack of a nearby Pirate trawler.

[MILES] 20s. Male. Detective. Pops his head in to the conference room to inform the detectives that a suspect is on his way to the investigation room.

[BIANCA TORELLI] 40s. Female. Along with the Deputy Commissioner, she has been sent from Internal Affairs to deliver some big news to a member of the MCS.

[TOM PILEGGI] 60s. Male. An attorney escorting his innocent client, who’s accused of being linked with piracy and arms trafficking, through a mob of reporters.

[REPORTER] 30s. Male/Female. Part of a large crowd of press clamoring to get answers from an accused criminal, this reporter gets a question in.

Law and Order:CI Vincent D'onofrio Kathryn Erbe. A deafening silence

First phone call of this morning was to Bill Butler's office at the Gersh Agency in New York, they represent Kathryn. I called them last week and received a curt "no comment." The call today went to the same office, the same person answered. I asked several questions about...announcements forthcoming, New films, Negotiations, the jars of fluff fans are sending to USA. I got in answer "No Comment" "No Comment" "No Comment" and "We had a meeting and were told to say 'No Comment'". No fear rep at Butler's office, you did your job well.

Now we know something is difinitely up or there would be something more than "No Comment," there would be, "an annoucement is coming," or something similar. Why not just say Kathryn is moving on, whatever.

Since there was a meeting where people were told to say "No Comment," one must logically think there is something Gersh agency doesn't want to talk about. The big secret is probably negotiations are ongoing. Full article

Law & Order: Criminal Intent Loyalists Unleash Deadly Fluffalanche

With great sadness, Movieline reported two weeks ago that Law & Order: Criminal Intent was discharging several key characters from its force including Goren and Eames, the beloved lead detective team played by Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. Instead of sitting tight while Criminal Intent writers transition Jeff Goldblum’s ivory-tickling, ethnic food loving, matinee-catching detective (and whichever actor they recast as his straight partner) as the program’s top bananas, Goren/Eames fans are banding together. On October 16, USA Networks will be deluged with jars of marshmallow filling, the same Fluff fans allege they will be watching if the network does not renew D’Onofrio and Erbe’s contracts. Originally scheduled to be released November 27, 2009 under Senator Entertainment. When Senator's funding fell through, Overture Films acquired the US rights to the film in September.

Sources tell us the US release of the film is now tentatively scheduled for March 2010.

There are plenty of similarities between this film and director Anton Fuqua's Training Day. For starters, the picture opens with a scene involving that film's star Ethan Hawke. Sitting in a parked car by the cemetery with a fellow crook, the two engage in a friendly conversation before Hawke blows the guys brains off to get his hands on the bag of money in his lap. As shocking as the scene is, what's even more of a shock is the fact that Hawke isn't a crook, but a cop desperate for cash. I won't reveal who the other actor is, only that he's pretty memorable in his brief cameo and plays a cop on TV.

The Fluff campaign was inspired by speculation in the press that the mass firings of LO:CI stars (except Jeff Goldblum) might have had something to do with the darkness of the Detective Goren character contrasted with the “lighter, fluffier” style of other original series at USA. "Mac Dog Williams" scribe heads TV pilot

Acclaimed novelist and short story writer Chris Offutt is the creator, writer and co-executive producer of "Tough Trade", the first original pilot offering for the new Television/Web channel Epix, produced by Lionsgate Television.

"TOUGH TRADE" is a dramatic but humorous look at the Nashville music scene. The show focuses on a family of country stars who live like the lyrics to a country song; a Nashville music dynasty whose bad behavior has left them on the verge of bankruptcy. Also described as a "bawdy fictional portrayal of one of Nashville’s most prominent and dysfunctional music families."

Chris Offutt's works include "Kentucky Straight", "Out of the Woods: Stories" and "The Same River Twice: A Memoir". He recently served as executive story editor on HBO`s "True Blood" and writer and producer for Lionsgate`s hit comedy "Weeds."

Offutt has also written the screenplay "Mac Dog Williams" with "Transsiberian's" Will Conroy ('Five Minutes, Mr Welles') for Vincent D'Onofrio/Brooklyn Hazelhurst Productions.

"Tough Trade" begins filming in November in Nashville.
