Review: Brooklyn's Finest

The opening scene involves a Brooklyn cop, Sal (Ethan Hawke) shooting a man (Vincent D'Onofrio) and then proceeding to steal the dead guy's wad of cash. It turns out his cop salary isn't cutting it. His wife is expecting twins and he is trying to buy a bigger house for his family. (Oddly enough, the basement in his home is used as a poker room for him and his fellow cop buddies.) Full article

"Brooklyn's Finest"

The camera creeps up on a dark car, quiet street. In voiceover we hear a peculiar New York accent telling how he got off on a DUI arrest because he had been fleeing from Mob thugs.

"That's a true story," he insists.

Inside the car, the accent is Vincent D'Onofrio, in one of those great character bits he used to do before he started his Olympic scenery chewing on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

It's a short role. As soon as he gets to the punch line, he takes a bullet to the head from dirty cop and lapsed Catholic Ethan Hawke, who scoops up a bag of cash and scurries away. Full article
