New Film: "Homefront", Casting ongoing

Vincent D'Onofrio will appear in a Millenium Films action thriller,  Homefront as murderous drug czar 'Danny T'.   The film will be directed by Gary Fleder, who directed the episode of Homicide: Life on the Street titled "Subway" for which D'Onofrio was nominated for an Emmy.   Written by Sylvester Stallone.

From behind prison bars, Danny T is determined to have Broker tracked down and killed. Meanwhile, Broke has gone to ground in a sleepy rural community with his little girl, KIT, who is still reeling from the recent death of her mother, Broker's wife. Broker and Kit just want to live their lives in peace, but Kit's run-in with a bully at her school triggers a chain of unfortunate circumstances that alerts local meth dealer GATOR and his partner SHERYL to the presence of Broker in their town. And when the low-life duo decide to rat Broker out to Danny T, Broker and Kit's "peaceful" new life takes a cataclysmic turn.

Review: "Chained" Vincent D’Onofrio is such an amazing actor...

When you hear about a film named “Chained”, you can only expect it to be one hell of a brutal film.  Well it definitely leaves you feeling very uncomfortable, which is it’s purpose obviously.  Vincent D’Onofrio is such an amazing actor and really gives himself over to the role and is extremely disturbing. Director Jennifer Lynch (“Boxing Helena”) delivers one-hell of an intense thriller and leaves you biting your nails trying to cope with what is going on.  The film was originally rated NC-17 for a one scene, which was “too shocking”, though it is included as a deleted scene.  If you are looking for a disturbing film with great performances, look no further than “Chained”.

From Anchor Bay’s official synopsis: “Coming home from a routine trip to the movies, eight-year-old Tim (Bird) and his mother, Sarah (Julia Ormond, Mad Men: Season Five) are picked up by a psychopathic cab driver named Bob (D’Onofrio). It ends up being their last ride together. Bob murders the young boy’s mother and keeps Tim as his unwilling protégé, making him clean up the mess following each murder he commits. After a couple of aborted escape attempts, Bob chains Tim – now renamed Rabbit – allowing just enough length to move freely within the house. As the years pass, Bob starts instructing Rabbit, teaching him anatomy and human behavior. Now a teenager, Rabbit (Eamon Farren, The Pacific) is slowly being pressed by Bob to start his own homicidal spree. Slowly but surely, he must soon choose whether to follow in Bob’s serial killer footsteps or make one final, desperate attempt to break free.”

I also love about Anchor Bay how most of their films come in Blu-ray/DVD combo packs. This film is presented in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio with a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track. I was very impressed with the audio track, especially for a low-budget film like this. I just got the new Indiana Jones Blu-ray set and even that didn’t have 7.1 tracks. The special features are decent but nothing special. There is a commentary track by writer/director Jennifer Lynch and actor Vincent D’Onofrio. If you liked the film you will like this. The alternate, more graphic version of “Mary’s Murder” scene is not really impressive either just a little more blood. Lastly there is the original theatrical trailer included.

Win Jennifer Lynch's CHAINED On Blu-ray

Jennifer Lynch's latest effort, Chained, hits DVD and Blu-ray on October 2nd and Anchor Bay wants you to have a copy.

Perhaps the most terrifying human relationship is the one between a serial killer and his target. But what if it starts that way, and becomes something...more? From the visionary mind of director Jennifer Lynch (Boxing Helena, Surveillance, Hisss) comes the dark fable CHAINED from Anchor Bay Films. With a stellar cast including Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, "Law and Order: Criminal Intent"), Gina Phillips (Jeepers Creepers, "Ally McBeal") Conor Leslie ("90210"), Evan Bird ("The Killing"), with Jake Weber (Dawn of the Dead, "Medium") and Julia Ormond (My Week With Marilyn, "Mad Men"), CHAINED is an unforgettable ride into the darkness that can reside in the human heart - no matter what your age.

Coming home from a routine trip to the movies, eight-year-old Tim (Bird) and his mother, Sarah (Ormond) are picked up by a psychopathic cab driver named Bob (D'Onofrio). It ends up being their last ride together. Bob murders the young boy's mother and keeps Tim as his unwilling protégée, making him clean up the mess following each murder he commits. After a couple of aborted escape attempts, Bob chains Tim - now renamed Rabbit -- allowing just enough length to move freely within the house. As the years pass, Bob starts instructing Rabbit, teaching him anatomy and human behavior. Now a teenager, Rabbit (Eamon Farren, X: Night of Vengeance) is slowly being pressed by Bob to start his own homicidal spree. Slowly but surely, he must soon choose whether to follow in Bob's serial killer footsteps or make one final, desperate attempt to break free...

CHAINED premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival on August 5th, and will available on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD October 2nd from Anchor Bay Films.

We've got two copies of the BluRay / DVD combo pack to give away to lucky Twitch readers and all you have to do for your chance to win is this: Email here and name the documentary made about the production of Lynch's Hisss. Please include your mailing address. Winners will be drawn at random.

A Q&A with "A Fall From Grace" Producer Eric Wilkinson

Wilkinson on writing about—and shooting in—St. Louis
You're a St. Louis native, correct?
Yeah, St. Louis native. I left right out of high school. I've lived in Miami, in Phoenix, all these different places. But my family still stays in St. Louis, so I go home for the holidays.
The script for A Fall From Grace was originally yours. Can you talk a little about the origin, and the connection to the Kerry murders?
I ended up on the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, and that thing just has so much history and energy. There's a lot of haunting energy there. It was actually for a different movie contract that I was recording   it. I started doing this research on it, on Route 66. I came across the story of the murders, and I read the book [A Rip in Heaven] by Jeanine Cummins. I actually started adapting it into a screenplay, and I approached her and offered to make her an executive producer, to make sure everything was done correctly. The media had sensationalized a lot of things, and a lot things were mishandled. I just wanted to make sure that the family felt safe with us. She declined. She didn't want to go forward with a film, and didn't want to put her family through that, so I respected those wishes.
I finally wrote a screenplay about a completely fictional story, that had nothing to do with those murders, but had everything to do with that bridge, at the beginning and the end.  And I knew that if I got Jennifer Lynch there, it would speak to her, and it certainly did.
The bridge is definitely unusual. It has a weird feng shui about it, for lack of a better term.
It certainly is! It's unique. We have four-time Oscar-nominated production designer, Jeannine Oppewall, who just came on board. She did L.A. Confidential and Catch Me If You Can. She's one of the best production designers in the world. We're going to have really trick out the Chain of Rocks Bridge to make it look like it once was. It doesn't look the way it did, twenty or thirty years ago, before the restoration. We want it to look the way it did, abandoned and haunting. All these vines twining around it. That's when it looked most beautiful, in my opinion.
Did you ever envision the film as a period piece?
No, not really. But St. Louis is certainly capable of shooting a period piece. We were really fascinated with how vastly different the locations are, and also how historical many of the locations are. Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, Cathedral Basilica, Laclede's Landing, Soulard. Tim Roth's character, the detective, he lives in Soulard in the movie.
There aren't many films that have been many film shot in St. Louis that are also explicitly set here.
You're right, it's usually done in passing. In this film, it's not just a backdrop, it's a character. I've continually joked: When was the last time you saw the Arch in a film since Chevy Chase stopped to get directions in Vacation?  For us, it's like an untapped resource. Another huge part of our fight is restoring the film commission for the city, as well as lobbying the state for the tax incentives. We feel like we have two or three different films that we want to film there. Right now, if we do get this tax setup from the state, we're going to take it right there. If we do that, there's nothing for anyone else if they want to shoot a film there. The state needs needs to put more funds into that, which will generate more funds for the city and state eventually, just like Louisiana is doing. New Orleans is already starting to get old, they film there so much. People are seeing it over and over again. We would like to be on the forefront of moving some of that Hollywood movie-making from Louisiana to Missouri, with St. Louis at the center point. That's really a huge part of our mission.

Trailer: 'Sinister' red-band trailer: Horror impressionism?

If you’ve had the misfortune of watching the official Sinister trailer, then you already know too much. Not only does it bludgeon you with the whole plot, but it features two minutes of a bearded Vincent D’Onofrio reading what sounds like an encyclopedia entry, describing every detail of the movie’s antagonist. You leave the trailer knowing exactly what to expect. Where’s the mystery? The suspense?

Thankfully, the producers recognized their folly and cut a brand new red-band trailer. It’s everything the original isn’t: Oblique. Ominous. Shrouded in mystery. Think of it as horror impressionism — conceptual and atmospheric, not overtly informative. What they’ve given us is a brooding sequence of images that suggests rather than explains. And, my oh my, is it eerie. I’d buy my ticket based on the final shot alone.

Sinister hits theaters Oct. 12.

"Fire with Fire" on Blu-ray DVD November 6th

Here's the trailer for the action-crime thriller "Fire With Fire" starring Josh Duhamel, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis and Vincent D'Onofrio. It's produced by rapper 50 Cent ... and yeah, this one is going straight to Blu-Ray. But to be fair, unless a movie is based on a novel, comic book, retro TV show, or even a toyline - there's a good chance it's going straight to the home entertainment market. That's not to say that this trailer is amazing -- it's not. But it's interesting to see a recognizable cast half-assing it.

Here, Duhamel plays a firefighter whose life is turned upside down when he becomes the sole eye witness in a murder case involving a psychopath (D'Onofrio). After being thrown into a witness protection program, Duhamel is forced to take matters in his own hands when the killer finds out where he's hiding. Willis plays a cranky detective who loves to scream in his telephone, while Dawson is a federal marshal, who can't resist Duhamel's good looks.

"Fire With Fire" will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate starting November 6th.
