Luca has special needs? In London, only special needs kids get school buses, the rest have to walk or take public transport (for which they have free passes). Or, of course, mummy or daddy clogs up the road taking them by car.

There is a rare but innovative thing called a Walking Bus which some parents supervise, picking kids up along the route and taking them across roads.

But Carin is right, it's a tough job that takes expertise, both in handling the kids and driving safely.

It seems so odd to hear Carin talk after all the still pictures we've seen of her. And her name is pronounced "Ka Rin" not "Ca Rin". So it's Luka then, do we know what his disability is? I feel so bad now envying the wonderful life they had, only to find out that they have their problems, too.
God Bless Luka.

Good Luck Carin, with your sons school transportation.

Luka is with Carin in the video, but I don't know that he is the one with the special needs.

I think it's actually Elias who has some form of autism - not that it's anyone business but the family's of course!

Elias is the one with Special Needs, he has Aspergers Syndrome. Vincent mentioned it in an interview and said that Luka wasn't displaying any symptoms, the condition affects children and adults in different ways, some are worse effected than others.

Dear Jane-
I wonder if that's why they did the CI episode on Aspergers. Remember Bobby said he thought Mark Linn Baker's character was an interesting guy, & he became his pen pal. I don't know much about the disease at all but when Vincent, Carin & Elias had pictures taken with their faces covered by their hands at Tribeca, Elias looked like a cute, little happy boy.

In Australia school students get School buses, and if they live a certain distance from the school (1.5km) in our state, the travel is free. I have taught at special schools, and the students travel in either mini buses, or govt subsidized taxis.

Sorry, Regina, can you differentiate for me the two different pronunciations, 'cos your versions look identical to me.

I'm pretty sure the littl'un's name is Luca, which is Italian. K is not a common letter in Italian.

As for Asperger's, it's a condition, not a disease, it's often inherited, and I'm pretty sure Vincent has the syndrome (I too am a special needs teacher and have taught a lot of kids on the autism spectrum, including Asperger's). Some people say it's just an extreme form of being male... But then girls do appear on this part of the spectrum, though more rarely than boys.

In an email from Toni, she spelled it Luka. So does Leila.
