"The Judge" to start shooting in Shelburne Falls

Robert Downey Jr

How did Shelburne Falls become a Hollywood backlot? The little village along the Deerfield River is set to host its second big-budget movie in a year, this one starring Robert Downey Jr., Leighton Meester, Vera Farmiga, Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Billy Bob Thornton.

In “The Judge,” which starts shooting in June, Downey plays a lawyer who returns home for his mother’s funeral, and discovers that his father, a small town judge played by Duvall, is suspected of murder.
It’s being directed by David Dobkin, whose credits include “Wedding Crashers” and “The Change-Up.”

According to the Greenfield Recorder, producers recently visited Shelburne Falls, chatting up merchants and touring buildings. Last June, Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin filmed “Labor Day,” directed by Jason Reitman, in Shelburne Falls.

MALE LAWYER: Any ethnicity (Late 20's-Mid 30's) RP or non-distinguishable accent. The prosecuting lawyer, determined to see this girl pay for her crimes. A very attractive, charismatic but shrewd lawyer. He is quite manipulative but has a high regard for the law. Tries to undermine the judge but tries to undermine him where possible.
2. Female / 18-24 yrs. / Caucasian. [Others like this]
GIRL:White female (18-Mid 20's) RP or non-distinguishable accent. She is a vulnerable and young looking girl. Slight frame. A look of innocence but has a dark edge. She has mixed with the wrong crowd, possibly a drug addict. She is being convicted of a serious crime and if convicted could lose everything. Very demanding scenes with high emotion.
3. Male / 51-60 yrs. / Caucasian. [Others like this]
JUDGE:White male (50's-60s). RP or non-distinguishable accent. He is the lead and a strong fatherly figure. He has a warmth and quiet wisdom about him but you wouldn't want to cross him. Looking for a very versatile powerhouse of an actor as this role will demand emotion and depth.
