Vincent D'Onofrio cast as Wilson Fisk in Netflix's 'Daredevil' series

The 'Law & Order' actor will play the arch-nemesis of the titular blind superhero in Marvel's highly anticipated 13-episode series, which is set to start shooting soon in New York City. He'll star opposite Charlie Cox, who has been tapped to play Daredevil.

Vincent D'Onofrio is graduating from cop to criminal mastermind.

Marvel announced Tuesday that the "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" vet landed the part of the heavy, Wilson Fisk, in the upcoming Netflix "Daredevil" series.

"We're incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining 'Marvel's Daredevil' in such an integral role," Jeph Loeb, Marvel's head of television, said in a statement. "Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero."

The 6-foot-3-inch D'Onofrio has the height to play the physically imposing villain, but adds some weight of the more proverbial kind to the cast. The 53-year-old Brooklyn-born actor has an impressive resume that includes "Full Metal Jacket " (1987), "Men in Black" (1997) and the role of radical icon Abbie Hoffman in "Steal This Movie" (2000).

His character, a shady businessman who controls crime in the Manhattan neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen where Daredevil is based, will vex the titular blind superhero, who will be played by British actor Charlie Cox in the 13-episode series set to bow in 2015.
Fisk, who goes by the name the Kingpin in the comic books, was first introduced in a 1967 issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man," but is best known as Daredevil's arch-nemesis.

The late Michael Clarke Duncan played Fisk in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie.

"Daredevil," which will be filmed entirely on location in New York City, is one of four live-action series coming to Netflix that feature some of Marvel's most popular superheroes. Those characters will join forces in an Avengers-like team for a major miniseries event.

Stephen S. DeKnight ("Angel," "Spartacus: War of the Damned") recently boarded the production as show runner.
