Greta Scacchi and daughter Leila George part ways after play in Perth

GRETA Scacchi and her daughter Leila George have revealed how a three-week stint sharing the stage in Perth has brought them closer together – including bonding over a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle between shows and rehearsals. Scacchi, who lived in Perth for two years after migrating from Italy at the age of 15, said starring alongside George in her professional stage debut in The Black Swan State Theatre Company’s production of Anton Chekhov’s classic The Seagull had been “a real gift”.

The pair will take their final bow tonight.   “It was a hugely significant opportunity,” Scacchi said.
“I was really thrilled she got to have a glimpse of Perth.”

The Emmy Award-winning actor said her son Matteo arrived in town just over a week ago and the trio managed to escape to Rottnest for two-day getaway.George, 22, whose father is Law And Order star Vincent D’Onofrio, said it was nice to have her mother watch over her from the wings.

“I said at the start it was a dream to be able to work with her and it has been,” George said.

She revealed Scacchi had bought her a 1000-piece puzzle of her favourite film, The Lion King, as an opening night gift instead of the traditional flowers.

“I set it up in my dressing room and me and my mum have been slowly but surely completing the puzzle (throughout the season),” she said.

George said the complex play was tougher to perform than she initially imagined, but Scacchi heaped praise on her daughter.

“It was just lovely to see how  instinctive she is,” Scacchi said.

George, who had been studying at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York, said the pair would take a short holiday together in the state’s North-West before parting ways.
