Vincent D'Onofrio to release punk spoken word album with Dana Lyn

In the full width and breadth of his career to date, a spoken word album is certainly not the strangest thing that actor Vincent D'Onofrio has done, much less of the punk variety. The veteran “Law & Order” actor, known for playing kooky, wide-eyed characters, is again reinventing himself with his upcoming album, partnering him up with musician Dana Lyn for poetry and punk.

D'Onofrio and Lyn's joint album, Slim Bone Head Volt, will be released through Buddhabug Records on March 3, 2015. The fourteen track long album includes the short track “I'm A Hamster”, which was exclusively premiered via the AV Club on December 3.

Dana Lyn is a Brooklyn-based violinist and composer whose music is the backdrop for Vincent D'Onofrio's words. The two met as artists do – during a rehearsal for an off Broadway play of which both were cast members – and their meeting of the minds led to their spoken word project that has now grown into a full blown album release.

In classic D'Onofrio fashion, only half of the music ended up being scored. The other half of the album's music was improvised in studio between D'Onofrio and Lyn. The entire album only took ten hours to record, including a handful of tracks that were cut from the final effort, a result of frenzied energy on the performer's part.

“I just saw myself in the mirror and my image wouldn’t shut up,” D'Onofrio explained in a press release. “I’m aware I’m performing but I only hear myself.”

Live previews of Slim Bone Head Volt have already been performed on multiple occasions at New York's own Joe's Pub; another sneak preview is scheduled for December 20. D'Onofrio and Lyn will be taking their show on the road after the album's official release, including a set at SXSW in late March 2015.

I think the thoughts that Vincent recites in these shows & now this album are exactly like his performances. The characters & thoughts Vincent has in his brain are remarkable. They say we only use a small percentage of our brain's capacity. I think Vincent's brain is on full throttle.
